A general adult baseline is about 0.83 to 1.0 grams per kilogram of body weight. Regular endurance or resistance exercise raises the useful range, while a calorie deficit combined with lifting may justify the upper end.
Either unit gives the same recommendation when converted correctly. One kilogram equals about 2.205 pounds, so 1.6 grams per kilogram is approximately 0.73 grams per pound.
Many expert groups suggest at least 1.0 to 1.2 grams per kilogram for healthy older adults, with more potentially useful during illness or regular training. Individual medical needs can differ.
A workable approach is to distribute the daily total across three to five eating occasions. The calculator shows an even split; real meals do not have to match perfectly.
